and now for our feature presentation…

Today is the University of Plymouth’s Fresher’s Fayre, and we’re busy promoting everything we do here at the Museum and Art Gallery to the fresh young faces on campus. One of the things we’re keen to promote is our ‘Gig in the Gallery’ event on Thursday 2nd December.

Luke Sully, a recent graduate from the University of Plymouth’s Graphic Communication with Typography course has been working with our youth forum – The Core – on promotional posters and flyers for the students to take away from our stand. Have a look at his site – one of his student projects was even to have a go at rebranding the National Portrait Gallery!

Here is the initial poster and flyer artwork created specifically for the Fresher’s Fayre. The actual poster for the event will be very similar, with a few small tweaks here and there. Hopefully this kind of information will be useful for the Campaign element of the Diploma. You can see how far in advance we need to prepare our marketing materials, and how early our project planning begins. This event has been in development since at least April this year, if not longer.

I’m personally really looking forward to seeing Jamie Lawson perform at the event. I probably haven’t seen him since 1999/ 2000 – when we used to play gigs at the same venues in Plymouth, back when I was a very bad drummer. His music career has taken a steady rise since then – supporting people like Damian Rice and Martha Wainwright, and playing the Eden Sessions last year. You can have a listen to his music here.

I’ve never heard Josie before, so I’m looking forward to her set as well. You can have a listen to her music here.
