My name is Liz Smith, and I’m head of learning here at the National Portrait Gallery. My role is quite multi-faceted in some ways. A lot of it focuses on engaging young people, whether they’re from hard to reach backgrounds or schools, or families, in learning about the gallery’s collections, so learning about British portraiture, people who’ve been really inspirational achievers in our collection. But it also expands to includes academic conferences, adult learners, interpretation, exhibitions, and projects like the one we’re working on for the Creative and Media Diploma to really reach out to people that are beyond London to get inspired and excited by the gallery’s collections, so it’s very varied and very interesting.
