Q. Who are you?
I’m David McNeff, I’m the loans manager here at the National Portrait Gallery, which means that I’m responsible for all the items that get loaned out from the collection.
Q. What appealed to you about this job?
It is, actually, a great job it. I don’t know if it’s my dream job because it didn’t exist when I left university. Essentially I started off as a librarian in a law firm, in a way you can equate this with librarianship in a very basic way, it’s basically stock control.
Q. What’s good about your job?
There’s an enormous sense of satisfaction that the collection here, which is an important one gets seen by as many people as possible. There’s also something of a buzz, we get a bit of an ego trip when you go along to an exhibition in New York or somewhere and you see something on the wall, and you know I and my assistant have been responsible for moving that here, for getting that into this show.
